Jacob “Dale” Willis
Jacob “Dale” Willis, 80, of Oxnard, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2007, in Oxnard. He was born May 6, 1927, in OK, and had been a Ventura County resident since 1940.
Dale attended Ventura schools and served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked in civil service beginning at Pt. Hueneme and retired from Pt. Mugu after 32 years. Dale played guitar and sang Country Western music at local nightclubs throughout Ventura county.
In May, 1946, Dale married Patricia “Pat” Ann Olson in Albany, Oregon. Two years later they moved to Ventura. In 1955, they moved to Oxnard, where they have resided in the same home for 52 years. Together they had three sons. Family was always first for them and the boys knew they were loved. Dale coached little league; taught his sons how to shoot archery; helped with scouting projects and taught them honesty and integrity by example. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies and camping trips with his family. Dale and Pat celebrated over 61 years of marriage and his unwavering love for his wife was apparent to all.
Affectionately called “Grumpy” by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he greeted them with hugs, kisses and a big smile. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and willingness to help someone in need. He was not only loved by his wife, family, and friends but by his neighbors as well.
He was preceded in death by son, Michael and his wife Kathy.
He leaves behind: his loving wife, Pat; son, Roger and his wife, Kathy of Simi Valley, CA.; son, Larry and his wife, Beth of Boise, ID.; nine grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
In accordance with his request, no public services will be held. The family celebrated his life together privately.
His motto was, “If you can’t help someone everyday, it’s a wasted day.”
